{"id":555,"date":"2026-09-15T10:08:52","date_gmt":"2026-09-15T07:08:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ecomed.kz\/aktobe\/novosti\/25-years-of-ivf-in-kazakhstan\/"},"modified":"2026-09-15T10:08:52","modified_gmt":"2026-09-15T07:08:52","slug":"25-years-of-ivf-in-kazakhstan","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/ecomed.kz\/aktobe\/en\/news\/25-years-of-ivf-in-kazakhstan\/","title":{"rendered":"25 years of IVF in Kazakhstan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>April 18, 1995<\/strong>&nbsp;marks the founding of&nbsp;<strong>Ecomed, Kazakhstan\u2019s first laboratory specializing in infertility treatment through in vitro fertilization (IVF).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That same year, the laboratory\u2019s small team of specialists achieved a major scientific breakthrough for the country \u2014&nbsp;<strong>Kazakhstan\u2019s first successful embryo transfer<\/strong>, which resulted in a long-awaited pregnancy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, on&nbsp;<strong>July 31, 1996<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Kazakhstan\u2019s first IVF baby was born<\/strong>, an achievement led by&nbsp;<strong>Saltanat Baikoshkarova, Doctor of Biological Sciences, founder and Scientific Director of the ECOMED network of clinics.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ecomed.kz\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/%D0%A1%D0%91.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4884\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.4922077922077923;width:1149px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>(Photo: Saltanat Baikoshkarova at Ecomed, Kazakhstan\u2019s first IVF laboratory, April 1995)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today marks&nbsp;<strong>25 years since the introduction of IVF in Kazakhstan<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 a method that over the years has helped bring enough miracle babies into the world to fill an entire small town!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This anniversary year is a special one for the employees and patients of the&nbsp;<strong>ECOMED network of clinics<\/strong>. At the beginning of the year, the management of the clinic network decided to forgo lavish celebrations and unnecessary events in favor of providing charitable assistance to patients and supporting children and people with disabilities who are in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Head of State declared&nbsp;<strong>2020 the \u201cYear of the Volunteer.\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;Following this inspiring example, Ecomed planned a series of charitable initiatives to support couples facing infertility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IVF is a high-tech treatment that involves significant costs, and for many families this becomes a decisive factor when considering treatment. For this reason, the ECOMED network of clinics developed a number of programs offering financial assistance and preferential terms for clinic services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since the beginning of the year, free outreach consultations have been held in regions where there are no qualified specialists in infertility treatment. Special support programs have also been launched for Ecomed patients undergoing multiple stages of treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis anniversary year has been declared the&nbsp;<strong>\u2018Year of Charity\u2019<\/strong>&nbsp;at our clinics. Now, as the country and the entire world are facing a pandemic, this is not the time for celebrations. This is a time when we truly need to stand together and for each of us to help in whatever way we can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We sincerely hope that the situation will stabilize and that, without fearing for the health of our loved ones, we will be able to return to our normal lives and work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We wish everyone excellent health, happiness, and well-being for your families! Of these, around&nbsp;<strong>10,000 require assisted reproductive technologies (ART)<\/strong>, including in vitro fertilization (IVF), which is used when pregnancy cannot be achieved through other treatment methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, the prevalence of infertility among couples in Kazakhstan is approximately&nbsp;<strong>15%<\/strong>.
