It can occur in both men and women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Based on its cause, urethritis is divided into two main types: infectious and non-infectious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Infectious urethritis is caused by microorganisms affecting the lining of the urethra. Possible pathogens include Trichomonas vaginalis, Chlamydia, Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonococcus), Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and other microorganisms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Non-infectious urethritis may be caused by trauma to the urethra, irritation, or allergic reactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to its clinical course, urethritis may be acute or chronic. Acute urethritis develops suddenly and is generally of relatively short duration, while chronic urethritis may persist or recur over a prolonged period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Causes of Urethritis<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inflammatory and infectious diseases;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hypothermia;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medical procedures involving the urethra, such as taking a urethral swab, inserting a urinary catheter, or performing cystoscopy;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trauma to the urethra;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Associated conditions such as cystitis, pyelonephritis, balanoposthitis, or prostatitis;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Poor personal hygiene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Symptoms of Urethritis<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Itching, pain, burning, or stinging sensation during urination;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Frequent urination;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Purulent or mucopurulent discharge from the urethra.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Urethritis is a common inflammatory condition affecting the urethra (the tube through which urine leaves the body).
