What is IVF?

IVF or In Vitro Fertilization is a method of assisted reproductive technology used in the treatment of infertility, where conception typically occurs outside the woman’s body. Today, approximately one in ten families in our country seeks assistance from reproductive clinics. In 2021, over 7,000 quotas were allocated for the entire country of Kazakhstan.

Who can get a quota?

  1. Kazakhstan’s citizens
  2. Women of reproductive age with a normal somatic and endocrine status, including a normal ovarian reserve.

Who can’t apply for quotas for IVF?

  1. Single women and single men.
  2. Couples in need of an IVF program involving donor sperm or eggs, as well as IVF programs with a gestational surrogate.

Quota application scheme:

  1. Registering in the queue at the women’s clinic in your place of residence.
  2. Obtaining a referral from the women’s clinic to a reproductive clinic for a consultation with a reproductive specialist.
  3. Consultation with a reproductive specialist and further examinations at the reproductive clinic. If there are no contraindications, undergoing a medical assessment.
  4. Undergoing a medical assessment at the IVF clinic to receive a protocol and the clinic’s consent for the IVF procedure.
  5. Submitting the received protocol at the women’s clinic’s commission to secure a quota.
  6. Receiving a quota.
  7. Coordinating the IVF procedure date with the reproductive specialist at the IVF clinic and registering in the “Registration Bureau” portal.
  8. Entering the IVF program and following all recommendations and requirements of the reproductive specialist.

The extent of the pre-IVF assessment

The extent of examination required for the IVF program

Approved by the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan under No. 272/2020 dated December 15, 2020.

Below is a list of required examinations for a married couple before commencing an IVF program, along with the expiration date for each analysis. To make it more convenient for you, you can have many of these tests conducted at your place of residence. In case of any result clarification, we recommend performing the test in our diagnostic laboratory.

The mandatory scope of examinations for a woman:

  • General and specialized gynecological examination by a gynecologist-reproductive specialist.
  • Ultrasound examination of the pelvic organs (prior to each procedure).
  • Blood type and Rh factor determination (once).
  • Complete blood count, including Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) (prior to each procedure).
  • Biochemical blood analysis (alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, total bilirubin, glucose, total protein, urea, creatinine, cholesterol) (within 10 days).
  • Coagulation profile (prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, fibrinogen, international normalized ratio, D-dimer, Prothrombin time, Thrombotest), lupus anticoagulant (within 10 days).
  • General urinalysis (prior to each procedure).
  • Assessment of the gynecological smear’s cleanliness (valid for 10 days).
  • Blood test for syphilis (Rapid Plasma Reagin, RPR), human immunodeficiency virus (referred to as HIV with code 124), hepatitis B and C, either at your place of residence or at the city AIDS Center (within 3 months).
  • Determination of IgM antibodies to Chlamydia trachomatis (within 6 months).
  • Serological testing for IgG and IgM antibodies against rubella (within 6 months).
  • Cytological examination of cervical smears for oncology (valid for 1 year).
  • Measurement of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels in the blood (within 6 months).
  • Measurement of prolactin levels in blood serum using the ELISA test method (within 12 months).
  • Electrocardiogram (ECG) (within 3 months).
  • Chest X-ray or fluorography (valid for 1 year).
  • Consultation with a general practitioner regarding health status and pregnancy feasibility, along with providing a conclusion (within 6 months).
  • Ultrasound examination of the breast and thyroid glands (valid for 1 year).

The scope of examinations for women based on indications:

  • Hysteroscopy with histological examination of the endometrium.
  • Examination of the state of the uterus and fallopian tubes by hysterosalpingography and/or laparoscopy.
  • Determination of estradiol, progesterone, cortisol, free triiodothyronine (T3), total thyroxine (T4), testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), and luteinizing hormone (LH) in blood serum using the ELISA method on the 3rd to 5th day from the beginning of the menstrual cycle (valid for 12 months).
  • Cytogenetic analysis of the karyotype and medical and genetic counseling with clinical and genealogical analysis, along with phenotypic examination (once).
  • Determination of homocysteine, cardiolipin, glycoprotein, and lupus anticoagulant (valid for 12 months).
  • Blood tests for cancer markers CA-125, NE-4, CA-15-3, and the ROMA index (valid for 6 months).
  • Vitamin D level determination (valid for 12 months).
  • Examination of flora from the urethra, cervical canal, and vagina (smear, valid for 12 months).
  • Determination of antisperm antibodies (Sperm Antibodies) and total anti-phospholipid antibodies using the ELISA method (valid for 12 months).
  • Infectious examination by PCR: Toxoplasma gondii, cytomegalovirus, HSV types 1 and 2, Trichomonas vaginalis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae (valid for 6 months).
  • Ultrasound of the abdominal cavity and kidneys (valid for 6 months).
  • Consultation with other specialists as indicated, along with the provision of a conclusion: mammologist, endocrinologist.
  • Certificate from the mental health center (valid for 1 year).

The mandatory scope of examinations for a man:

  • Blood type and Rh factor determination (once).
  • Blood test for syphilis (Rapid Plasma Reagin, RPR), human immunodeficiency virus (referred to as HIV with code 124), hepatitis B and C, either at your place of residence or at the city AIDS Center (within 3 months).
  • Semen analysis, morphological examination of ejaculate, and MAG test (spermatozoa detachment from fertilization) (valid for 6 months).
  • Consultation with a urologist-andrologist (valid for 1 year).
  • Serological testing for IgG and IgM antibodies against chlamydia (within 6 months).
  • Urethral smear microscopy (within 3 months).
  • Diagnostic chest X-ray (single view) (valid for 1 year).

The scope of examinations for men based on indications:

  • Ultrasound examination of the scrotum and pelvic organs (valid for 1 year).
  • Hormone analysis for LH, FSH, testosterone, prolactin, and TSH (valid for 1 year).
  • Prostate secretion examination (within 3 months).
  • Bacteriological culture of sperm or prostate secretions (valid for 1 year).
  • Cytogenetic study of peripheral blood cells (karyotype), determination of the AZF factor of the Y chromosome in DNA using molecular genetic methods, and assessment of mutagenic effects (chromosomal aberrations) (once).
  • Detection of antisperm antibodies (Sperm Antibody) and assessment of total anti-phospholipid antibodies using the ELISA method (valid for 1 year).
  • Hypoosmotic swelling test and sperm flotation test (for necrospermia).
  • Examination of sperm chromosomes (FISH sperm).
  • DNA-sperm fragmentation test.
  • Vitamin D level determination (valid for 1 year).
  • Infectious examination by PCR – detection of Toxoplasma gondii (Toxoplasma gondii), cytomegalovirus (HSV-V), herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2, Trichomonas vaginalis (Trichomonas vaginalis), Neisseria gonorrhoeae (Neisseria gonococci) (valid for 6 months).
  • Blood tests for PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen), AFP (Alpha-Fetoprotein), LDH (Lactate Dehydrogenase), and HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin).
