Vesiculitis

Vesiculitis is a urological condition of the male genitourinary system characterized by inflammation of the seminal vesicles. It may occur together with inflammation of the prostate gland. Most commonly, vesiculitis develops as a complication of infectious and inflammatory conditions such as prostatitis, urethritis, orchitis, and others.

The seminal vesicles are paired glandular organs located above the prostate gland. They produce components of seminal fluid that are important for the normal function and viability of sperm cells.

Vesiculitis can be either acute or chronic.

Symptoms of Vesiculitis

The symptoms of vesiculitis may vary and can include fatigue, pain in the lower abdomen, suprapubic area, and perineum, as well as fever.

The condition may also be accompanied by reduced sexual function, erectile dysfunction, and urethral discharge. In acute vesiculitis, pain and discomfort during urination may occur.

If left untreated, vesiculitis may lead to serious complications, including impaired fertility and, in severe cases, irreversible male infertility.
