IVF in a natural cycle Shymkent

What is IVF in a natural cycle?

In standard IVF, hormonal medications are administered to stimulate the maturation of the necessary number of follicles (eggs). Subsequently, the “suitable” eggs, meeting the required parameters, are selected. These selected eggs undergo artificial fertilization, and on day 3-5, the resulting embryo is transferred into the uterine cavity.

When employing the IVF protocol in the natural cycle, hormonal medications are not administered to stimulate and mature follicles (eggs).

During IVF, one, very rarely two, follicles (eggs) mature in the natural cycle, and these are utilized for artificial insemination. For patients, this program is the most gentle and safe, as the maturation of eggs occurs naturally through their own hormones.

Indications for IVF in the natural cycle?

As indicated by the description of the IVF program in the natural cycle, the primary contraindication is the prohibition of hormonal drug use due to hormonal disorders. However, there are other indications, namely:

  • High risk of ovarian hyperstimulation;
  • Unsuccessful IVF with stimulation, where the body did not respond to hormones and could not produce enough eggs;
  • History of oncology or underwent a course of chemotherapy;
  • Thromboembolism, which is an acute blockage of a blood vessel;
  • Diseases of the pancreas or liver;
  • Tumors on the organs responsible for hormone production;
  • History of heart surgery with the installation of an artificial valve;
  • Very small ovarian reserve;
  • Patient’s refusal from stimulation.

Disadvantages of the IVF program in the natural cycle?

This program may not be suitable for all women, as it has its drawbacks.

  • The percentage of successful pregnancy is lower compared to standard IVF or IVF with minimal stimulation;
  • A reduced chance of a multiple pregnancy;
  • In cases of premature ovulation, the use of the program is no longer possible;
  • The inability to select the “best” embryo for transplantation into the uterine cavity due to the fact that only one egg was obtained;
  • Fertilization after “defrosting.”
